Garmin® Panoptix Forward Adds FrontVü for Collision Avoidance

OLATHE, Kan.--()--Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), today announced the Panoptix™ Forward PS21-TM, a new transom-mount marine transducer that adds FrontVü™ for collision avoidance to its popular Panoptix LiveVü™ Forward sonar offerings. FrontVü provides the confidence and reassurance to help navigate in any water by showing obstructions with a 300-foot forward range. In conjunction with the announcement of the PS21-TM, a free software update will also be available to add the FrontVü feature to existing Panoptix Forward transducers, the PS21-TR and PS31. The PS21-TM and FrontVü are being announced in conjunction with the Miami International Boat Show, and will be on display at the Garmin booth, #C480.

“Combined with our revolutionary Panoptix technology, Garmin FrontVü provides mariners with an unprecedented live view of what’s happening in front of their boat in real time, giving them more confidence and peace of mind when navigating difficult waters,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales. “Having FrontVü on board will give mariners the confidence and an added level of situational awareness when it comes to protecting their passengers and their investment.”

Compatible with Garmin GPSMAP® or echoMAP® CHIRP 7- and 9-inch chartplotters, FrontVü provides instant feedback and enough forward range (300 feet) to help mariners navigate their boat with confidence. With an easy-to-understand interface, FrontVü shows users upcoming dangerous obstacles with adequate time that allows them to change course if needed.

The PS21-TM pulls double duty providing users both LiveVü Forward and FrontVü technologies. LiveVü Forward shows an image of moving targets toward or away from the boat, even while stationary, in real time. For a look at what’s ahead of the boat, FrontVü shows obstructions under the water in front of the boat, and aids in avoiding collision. The FrontVü feature can be used in a split screen with other Panoptix all-seeing sonar views, including LiveVü Forward as well as RealVü™ 3D Forward (offered on the PS31), so mariners can see real-time sonar imagery of what’s around and in front of their boat at video like speed.

Like the Panoptix PS21-TR, the PS21-TM provides a digital depth number, so there’s no need to purchase a separate traditional transducer for basic depth information. No black box is needed either – simply plug in the transducer once it’s mounted and start exploring unfamiliar waters with more confidence than before.

The Garmin PS21-TM with FrontVü will be available in Q2 2016 with a suggested retail price of $999.99. It’s compatible with Garmin’s new GPSMAP 8400/8600 series, GPSMAP 8000 series, GPSMAP 7400/7600 series, GPSMAP 7x1, 8x0, 10x0 series chartplotters, as well as the echoMAP CHIRP 7- and 9-inch models.
