OKI Makes Social Contribution Activities to Support Children's Education in Northern Thailand

TOKYO--()--OKI Data Corporation (OKI Data), an OKI Group company specializing in the printer business, today announced the donation of school supplies, sporting goods, water filters, and household items to Baan Maehaenua School, located in Maeche Village (Mae Na Chon Subdistrict, Mae Chaem District, Chiangmai Province) in northern Thailand, where OKI Data operates a manufacturing site for serial impact dot matrix printer heads. The donation is part of the company’s ongoing social contribution activities. From OKI Precision (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (OPNT), a manufacturing site for serial impact dot matrix printer heads and Lamphun Branch of OKI Data Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (ODMT), a manufacturing site for printers and multifunction printers (MFPs), 23 employees in total took part in this activity. The donations for schools and other educational institutions in this area began in 2009 and the activity in this year is the seventh one.

Established in 1996 in Northern Thailand, OPNT manufactures and ships print heads for OKI Data’s serial impact dot matrix printers and stepping (SP) motors for the global market. Founded in 1994, ODMT is a flagship manufacturing site and ships printers and MFPs for the global market. The two companies have maintained ongoing social contribution activities such as monetary donations and donations of household items for the Red Cross and blood donation drives.

Maeche Village, located in a mountainous region far from urban areas, is inaccessible by car. Founded in 1994, Baan Maehaenua School is the area’s sole elementary school. Some 100 students, including kindergarten pupils, take lessons there from four teachers.

“Areas as remote as this are always short on classroom equipment, general school supplies, and household goods for children,” said Akinori Nishino, President of OPNT. “To promote children’s education, OPNT and ODMT have donated stationery items including textbooks, notebooks, pencils and erasers, sporting goods such as soccer balls and table tennis boards, school facilities like chairs, a slide and a swing in the playground, and water filters.”
“We also donated household items such as bedding for kindergarten pupils,” said Teiji Shoji, President of ODMT. “We’re committed to continuing to make these social contribution efforts in Thailand.”

OKI Group’s activities include support for Save the Children, an international NGO involved in providing educational support for children living in disputed areas, and donation of shoes for children in the US and classroom equipment in China. Moving forward, working with a wide range of world’s NGOs and other organizations, OKI will continue to make these and other social contribution efforts.
