PROMPERÚ: Peruvian Exporters Promoting High Quality Fruits and Vegetables at Fruit Logistica

BERLIN--()--Today is the last day of Fruit Logistica, one of the largest events for fresh produce in the world. Just like yesterday, the Peruvian pavilion has been busy with interested buyers and importers coming to meet with Peruvian exporters. The Peruvian delegation, led by Director of Exports Promotion Luis Torres, has travelled with about 300 representatives from producers, transport and logistics, operations, agro industrial guilds, cold chain suppliers and universities.

This afternoon, the fair’s top authorities arrived at the pavilion along with Mr. Rainer Bomba, the German Vice Minister of Transport. They met with the team from Promperú to discuss the German Logistics Alliance and how this can help exporters connect with German partners to increase commerce between the two countries.

Magali Silva, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) and President of the Board of Promperú commented: “This fair allows us to position our country’s exportable supply of fresh produce on the European market and consolidate our presence as a leading supply country. So far, it has been a huge success with many commercial and strategic meetings”. About 30% of the exhibiting companies are doing so for the first time this year and others for the 8th time, having exhibited here in the initial stages of Peru’s presence at this Fair in 2003. Their continued growth and participation in this fair is a testament to the success of Promperu’s role in driving agricultural SMEs to international markets.

For this event, Promperú has invested in a 515m2 pavilion; designed to give ample space for exporters to meet and negotiate with buyers and other interested parties. The country’s main attractions: organic bananas, blueberries, grapes, avocado, ginger and mandarins. Ms. Ana Maria Deustua, from the Peruvian Association of Agrarian Producers Guilds said: “Peru is now an important player in the world food industry and this can be seen in the development of an efficient and modern agro industrial sector that can offer quality, freshness and good taste all year round”. Certainly, this is reflected in the great interest from European importers and distributors as well as the sales data. Despite a world economic deceleration this year, Peruvian fruit and vegetable exports grew by 24%, exceeding USD 2.3 billion in 2015.
