MainStay Expands Institutional Sales Team

MainStay Continues Momentum with Key Senior Additions to Institutional Intermediary Business

NEW YORK--()--MainStay Investments (“MainStay”), a New York Life Company, announced today that John Lloyd, CFA, FRM, CAIA, has joined the Institutional Intermediary Business (IIB) as managing director and head of the Research Platform Group. Previously, Mr. Lloyd was with Credit Suisse Securities, LLC, where he was a managing director and Head of Portfolio Solutions and Investment Consulting Solutions for Credit Suisse Private Bank.

Additionally, MainStay has further strengthened IIB’s Defined Contribution Investment Only (DCIO) practice with the addition of Jonathan Blaze, who joins the team to lead its wholesaling specialist effort nationwide, as well as to cover the Central region out of Chicago. Mr. Blaze comes to MainStay from Thornburg, where he built and grew its DCIO business into one of the largest and most respected in the industry.

“I am thrilled to start off the year by welcoming these talented senior professionals to our dynamic and growing Institutional Intermediary Business team, and look forward to the breadth of knowledge and expertise they will bring to our business,” said Brendan Gundersen, managing director and head of MainStay’s Institutional Intermediary Business. “John has worked for some of the world’s largest and most respected financial institutions and we look forward leveraging his broad and impressive experience to support our institutional business goals.”

“Having best-in-class talent is critical to our business strategy, growth and success,” said Stephen Fisher, president of New York Life Investment Management. “We have made great strides over the past year in building out our Institutional Intermediary Business and we continue on an ambitious path for 2016.”

Mr. Lloyd has a long history of success in managing business lines that focus on portfolio construction, manager research, due diligence, risk analytics and product development. During his tenure at Credit Suisse, he demonstrated exceptional leadership and business strategy acumen that directly led to tripling the total managed accounts and portfolio model platform assets by enhancing the investment platform and revamping the due diligence process and marketing materials. He also led the expansion and growth of the institutional consulting and outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO) businesses, substantially increasing assets under management. In addition, Mr. Lloyd chaired both the Private Banking Investment Products Committee and Tactical Global Allocation Committee which represented the last approval step for all investment strategies and the global investment models, respectively. Prior to Credit Suisse, Mr. Lloyd held positions at Merrill Lynch, Reuters Analytics Group and Dean Witter Discover.

Mr. Blaze has over 30 years of experience in the retirement and investment field. While at Thornburg he was responsible for sales in over a dozen states in the Central region. Recently, he was selected as one of the National Association of Plan Sponsors’ (NAPA) 2015 100 Top DC Wholesalers, which placed him in the top seven percent of sales professionals within the industry. Mr. Blaze is a nationally recognized speaker and thought leader in the ERISA retirement plan market, and is well versed in fiduciary best practices. He has also held positions at Great West Retirement Services, Global Asset Management and Scudder Kemper Investments, Inc.
