EMERYVILLE, Calif.--()--One of the nation’s largest providers of acute care management and staffing solutions, CEP America, announced today that it has named Imamu “Mu” Tomlinson, M.D., M.B.A., as president.

Dr. Tomlinson will take the reins from current CEO Wesley Curry, M.D., F.A.C.E.P., who announced he would be stepping down from the position at the end of 2016. To ensure a smooth succession, Dr. Curry has appointed Dr. Tomlinson to serve as president beginning this January 1, and the CEP America Board of Directors intends to appoint Dr. Tomlinson CEO in January 2017.

"As I think about the role of the next CEO for our national physician Partnership, I believe Dr. Tomlinson personifies the key attributes needed to successfully lead the CEP America enterprise," said Dr. Curry. "He will bring his experience developing a network of integrated care to support a regional health system to our 30 client health systems across the country.”

Dr. Tomlinson’s position highlights the emphasis CEP America places on physician leaders as key to helping identify, build and implement solutions to the challenges faced by hospitals today. With one of the most innovative staffing models in the nation, CEP America is a democratic partnership. Each of the 1,700 physicians working with the company is an owner and partner in the organization.

Dr. Tomlinson is currently an elected Board member and Regional Director for the Sequoia Region, where he led the integration of one of CEP America's first multi-hospital, multispecialty integrated networks. He also serves as the Chief of Staff for Adventist Medical Center Hanford and Adventist Medical Center Selma, where he will continue to practice as an emergency physician.

"The best teams have incredible talent, but they also have diverse skills and perspectives," said Dr. Tomlinson. "I am committed to building diverse teams that will power our client hospitals with the ideas and innovations needed to provide exceptional care to patients and succeed in the evolving healthcare landscape."

Chairman of the CEP America Board of Directors, Jaime Rivas, M.D., F.A.C.E.P., noted that the search for a new CEO was a rigorous process driven by the company’s core values. “We have incredible talent at all levels in this organization,” said Dr. Rivas. “As a physician-owned and led Partnership it is no surprise that we have so many strong leaders with experience and talent to lead innovation and change in our industry.”

Dr. Tomlinson received his bachelor of science in Biology from St. Lawrence University in New York and his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. He completed his residency at Miami Valley Hospital in Ohio and is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine. Prior to becoming Regional Director, he served as Medical Director for seven years. In 2012, Dr. Tomlinson completed his MBA in Healthcare Administration from California Coast University.
