Nutrisystem Expands into New Heart Healthy Segment with DASH Compliant Diet

Clinical Study Reveals Individuals Lost 3x More Weight on Nutrisystem DASH than Doing DASH on Their Own

Nutrisystem Expands into New Heart Healthy Segment with DASH Compliant Diet

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa.--()--Nutrisystem (NASDAQ: NTRI), a leading provider of weight management products and services, announced today that in addition to its all-new, clinically tested Turbo10 program for diet season 2016, it is also expanding its health segment offerings to include a DASH diet compliant plan. The DASH diet has ranked as the #1 Overall Diet by US News & World Report for five years in a row (2011–2015) and is recommended by the USDA, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the American Heart Association (AHA).

In a clinical study sponsored by Nutrisystem, the Nutrisystem DASH plan was compared to a do-it-yourself (DIY) DASH group following a reduced calorie meal plan based on the NIH DASH meal pattern. Results showed the Nutrisystem DASH group lost 3x more weight in the first month than those in the DIY DASH group. Both the Nutrisystem DASH group and the DIY DASH group significantly decreased blood pressure in one month.

“We went the extra mile to configure a plan, based on one of the most widely recommended diets, that gives our customers better results than following the diet on their own,” emphasized Dawn Zier, President and CEO of Nutrisystem. “Nutrisystem is all about results and we continuously challenge ourselves to make sure we’re a true leader in weight loss efficacy and focusing on specific health issues like diabetes and heart disease.”

The Nutrisystem DASH plan aligns with the DASH diet recommendations for increased intake of fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy, and whole grains, and limits intake of sodium and saturated fats — meal plans provide ≤ 2,300 mg sodium and ≤ 6% of energy from saturated fats. Additionally, it offers more whole grain options, limits indulgent desserts to three per week, and focuses on including more nuts as snacks.

“We hold ourselves to a high standard when it comes to improving our program and recently we conducted a clinical study comparing Nutrisystem DASH to DIY DASH,” said Nutrisystem Corporate Dietitian Courtney McCormick, MPH, RDN, LDN. “We are pleased to report that Nutrisystem not only follows the DASH diet meal pattern, but also delivers significantly more weight loss.”

Nutrisystem also offers plans for those who are pre-diabetic or suffering from diabetes. Nutrisystem D® is clinically proven to help people with Type 2 diabetes lose weight and lower their A1c. In clinical studies sponsored by Nutrisystem, participants on Nutrisystem D® lost an average of 18 pounds, reduced A1c levels by 0.7% on average, lost inches off their waistline and lowered their total cholesterol.

Last week the Company announced its lead diet season product launch, the all-new Turbo10, a clinically tested program that delivers up to a 10-pound weight loss and an overall reduction of five inches from the waist, hips, thighs, chest, and arms in just the first month. The Turbo10 program includes Turboshakes™, the Company’s first ever line of shakes with probiotics to support digestive and immune health and help reduce belly bloat. Packed with protein and containing the clinically tested GanedenBC30® probiotic, this Nutrisystem® shake line makes its debut in the structured meal delivery space.
