BECU to Expand Presence in the Greater Spokane Area

Washington state’s largest credit union plans to open three new financial centers

TUKWILA, Wash.--()--BECU, the fourth largest credit union in the country, announced today that it will be expanding its presence in Spokane by opening Financial Centers in the greater Spokane market in 2016, and is currently finalizing property negotiations. This will be the first time that BECU will operate retail branches in the area to serve its 4,000-plus Spokane-area members, though the credit union has operated a contact center in Spokane Valley with more than 100 employees for over 10 years and has had ATMs in 11 Rite Aid stores since 2014.

“BECU was founded on the idea that by working together, members can achieve their financial goals,” said Benson Porter, BECU President and CEO. “We look forward to sharing our approach to finance with Spokane residents through our proven formula of better rates and lower fees supported by our robust digital offerings, our amazing people to people service and a commitment to financial empowerment.”

The credit union plans to open the new financial centers in the third quarter of 2016 and they will be located in the cities of Spokane and Spokane Valley.

“For more than 13 years, anyone who lives or works in Washington State has been eligible to join BECU. With our robust membership in the Spokane area, the decision to expand east with new financial centers is a natural step forward for BECU,” Porter continued. “As we expand, we look forward to building on our commitment to the financial well-being of the communities that we serve through our member services, community grants and scholarships, and volunteering efforts.”

BECU members will be able to use the three new branches to establish accounts, apply for loans and perform financial transactions -- including free ATM, online and telephone banking services. In addition, members will be able to make an appointment with experts who can help with buying or refinancing a home, investing for retirement, growing a business and more.
