CareSync to Participate in Panel at South by Southwest 2016

Travis Bond to discuss how one family used CareSync to manage son’s chronic illness

TAMPA, Fla.--()--CareSync, the leading provider of software and services for chronic disease management, today announced that the company’s founder and CEO, Travis Bond, will be speaking at the 2016 South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Interactive Festival. Bond will present alongside representatives from BridgingApps A Program of Easter Seals Houston and Texas Children’s Hospital, as well as Henry Furler, a 17-year-old coping with multiple chronic diseases. The session, “Apps and Better Medical Outcomes: Real Solutions,” will highlight how mobile solutions can help patients, like Furler, better manage their illnesses and achieve medical independence.

When Furler was three weeks old he was nearly killed because of misinformation on his health. For years, his family struggled to keep track of all of the paperwork associated with doctors, hospitals and labs—at least 27 total—to prevent this from happening again. Due to the number of caregivers, various medications and multiple appointments, it can be almost impossible for chronically ill individuals and their families to handle their health independently. Furler and his family found a solution—CareSync—and have been leveraging CareSync Plus since early 2015 to manage his health information and help him towards his medical independence. The tool generates a digital record and summary accessible 24/7 via web or any mobile device, ready to share with any doctor or anyone else the patient designates.

Betsy Furler, mother of Henry, training & therapy coordinator at BridgingApps and panel participant said, “We’re frequent visitors to the hospital, and before we started using CareSync we’d always get the same types of questions around things like Henry’s allergies and medications. Now, we just pull up the app, and all of the information is right in front of us. Working with CareSync changed our lives, and it’s made Henry’s care so much more efficient.”

As of 2012, about half of all adults—117 million people—had one or more chronic health conditions, while nearly 14.5 million children in the U.S. suffer from chronic illnesses. With so many people coping with these conditions, there’s an increasing need for solutions and technology to help those affected better manage their care. The use of mobile devices can help with communication among caregivers, educational or job re-entry, organization of medical records and independence.

“In addition to the number of children with chronic disease, we’re experiencing a growing, aging population who are prone to develop multiple chronic illnesses,” said Travis Bond, founder and CEO of CareSync. “Managing medications, doctors’ appointments and medical records can be such a hassle, and we’re thrilled to be able to help patients and their families take more control of their care and live healthier, happier lives. And, we can’t wait to share our story with the SXSW audience.”

Additional panel participants include Dr. Aloysia Schwabe, a physician from Texas Children’s. More details on the session will be available in January 2016.
