Colorado Technical University Nursing Program Earns Accreditation

The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education recognizes CTU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program for meeting its standards for nursing education

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--()--Colorado Technical University (CTU), a leading provider of campus-based and online higher education, announced today that its Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) program has earned accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for the accreditation of baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs.

“Colorado Technical University is thrilled to earn accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education,” said university dean of nursing, Dr. Ruth Tarantine, DNP, RN. “We are proud that our baccalaureate degree program in nursing was determined to meet CCNE standards for quality and integrity.”

CCNE assesses and identifies baccalaureate, graduate, and residency programs in nursing that engage in effective educational practices and operate in accordance with national nursing standards.

The Future of Nursing

Nurses represent the largest segment of the healthcare workforce in the United States with more than 3 million members. The Institute of Medicine stresses the importance of nurses continuing their education and training, and advocates for the percentage of practicing nurses with baccalaureate degrees to increase from 50% to 80% by 2020.1

“With employment of registered nurses expected to grow 19 percent from 2012 to 20222 it’s critical to ensure that CTU helps meets that growing demand,” further remarked Dr. Tarantine. “CTU allows students to apply their real world experiences to a curriculum built around today’s healthcare industry standards.”

Established in 2008, CTU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is designed for nurses who have completed a registered nursing program and are interested in expanding their knowledge and practice options to further their career in medicine. CTU’s nursing program offers its student’s affordable, relevant courses led by knowledgeable professionals dedicated to teaching students and enriching nursing curriculum. Our courses are designed to help guide practicing nursing professionals in their efforts to become better prepared to face the rapidly changing healthcare landscape. CTU’s program of study is designed to equip today’s nurse with the essential tools to manage the care of complex patients across the healthcare continuum in a variety of settings.

“Nurses are consistently challenged to make a difference in the health of individuals and communities – and it’s through our healthcare and nursing programs that students are taught the skills they need to pursue success,” said Dr. Connie Johnson, CTU provost and chief academic officer. “The CCNE accreditation marks CTU’s commitment to quality nursing education, which ultimately benefits our current and future students.”
