NORMA Group Offers Language, Career Courses for Refugees

MAINTAL, Germany--()--NORMA Group, a global market leader in engineered joining technology, is helping to provide German courses for refugees at its headquarter city of Maintal. The company is also offering four-week career orientation internships for young migrants.

The courses are organized by the Working Group Asylum Maintal. The German language course will run through January 2017. NORMA Group is covering the cost of the classes, which already have begun in the Catholic parish of Maintal-Dörnigheim. Up to 25 pupils are being taught German in 45-minute courses held five days a week.

“As an international company with employees from over 40 nations, we view cultural diversity as a core value,” said Werner Deggim, CEO of NORMA Group. “Through our social commitment, we want to support the city of Maintal and promote interaction of its citizens. German language courses and internships for refugees in our community will contribute to this.”

Christine Mayer-Simon from the Working Group Asylum Maintal added: “These young people would otherwise have no access to either language training or vocational orientation. The courses will be able to help them to successfully integrate into society.”

The Working Group had been offering German language courses on a volunteer basis. Around 322 refugees currently live in Maintal, and the municipality will host nearly 500 migrants by the end of this year.
