WALTHAM, Mass.--()--Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, received a perfect score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s annual 2016 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), making it a “Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality.” The CEI, a national benchmarking tool for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender workplace inclusion, provides an in-depth analysis and rating of large U.S. employers relevant to LGBT policies and practices.

“Building a culture of diversity and inclusion allows us to bring cutting-edge thinking to the workplace that will drive innovation, which is critical to meeting the needs of our customers,” said Sue Rice, senior vice president of human resources for Thermo Fisher Scientific. “This year, we formed an employee resource group dedicated to the recruitment, retention and development of LGBT talent, an important milestone in fostering a workplace culture that empowers employees to bring their whole selves to work. We’re proud to be recognized for our progress.”

In addition to forming an LGBT employee resource group, the following practices also contributed to Thermo Fisher’s perfect rating:

  • An Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policy that includes sexual orientation as well as gender identity and expression.
  • Equal healthcare coverage for transgender individuals without exclusion for medically necessary care.
  • A supplier diversity program that fosters the promotion, growth and development of LGBT-owned businesses as well as suppliers dedicated to supporting LGBT employees with inclusive practices.

This is the 14th edition of the CEI, which evaluates companies across an array of equal employment opportunity policies and benefits, organizational LGBT competency and public engagement with the LGBT community. This year, the HRC rated 1,024 companies. Thermo Fisher is one of 391 major U.S. businesses to earn a perfect score.
