BOOMTOWN and Colorado Permanente Medical Group Announce Launch of Colorado’s First HealthTech Accelerator

CPMG’s unique healthcare approach will complement Colorado’s strong HealthTech market and create industry-leading partnership

BOULDER, Colo.--()--Today Colorado Permanente Medical Group (CPMG) and BOOMTOWN announced the launch of a specific track for HealthTech entrepreneurs in the BOOMTOWN accelerator. The BOOMTOWN accelerator nurtures selected startups through a 12-week mentoring program and provides a seed-stage investment.

“At CPMG we strive to create opportunities to optimize health so that people can live their best possible lives. We believe that supporting new health and wellness focused technologies enhances our vision for creating healthy communities and for meeting our patients where they are,” said Bill Wright, MD, executive medical director of CPMG.

BOOMTOWN has named veteran healthcare professional Tom Base managing director for the HealthTech accelerator, which will invest in 10 to 12 HealthTech startups during 2016.

“Healthcare systems around the globe are in the early stages of a monumental transformation to more innovative, patient-centric and value-based care models. Technology is one of the key drivers that will help us get there,” said Base. “We are very fortunate to partner with such a forward-thinking medical group like CPMG which will provide resources and serve as a validation platform for new and cutting-edge ideas,” he added.

Selected HealthTech startups will benefit from the new BOOMTOWN Connectivity Lab, sponsored by Comcast Labs, which will allow users to access the latest hardware and software in the rapidly growing Internet of Things (IoT) market, including wearables, explore interactivity and communicate across virtually every major traditional and mobile operating platform. The lab is expected to open next month at BOOMTOWN’s Boulder headquarters.

The fourth BOOMTOWN class is currently in session. The first three classes boast a strong success rate with more than 90 percent of BOOMTOWN graduating companies still in operation and 78 percent generating revenue from operations.

“We are excited to have a partner like CPMG, who has a wealth of knowledge in health and a passion for innovation," said Toby Krout, BOOMTOWN co-founder and executive director. "Colorado has a strong and growing HealthTech ecosystem thanks to innovative organizations like Prime Health and Catalyst. Our partnership with CPMG will give Colorado a world-class HealthTech accelerator, which will in turn provide entrepreneurs an amazing platform to develop innovations in healthcare.”

Applications for the HealthTech BOOMTOWN session, beginning in early 2016, opened today and are being accepted at http://www.boomtownaccelerator.com/accelerators/health/.
