Brit + Co and Crayola Introduce the First Crowdsourced Coloring Book for Grown-ups: Pattern Play

Available exclusively at Target

SAN FRANCISCO & EASTON, Pa.--()--Today, Brit + Co and Crayola announce the first-ever crowdsourced coloring book for grown-ups, Pattern Play. The book is illustrated by over 50 different artists from Brit + Co’s community and beyond, and includes a collection of unique, modern and hand drawn designs with a focus on pop culture and nostalgic patterns. Because patterns are known to help stimulate creative flow, this 78-page coloring book offers a new tactile and interactive experience for millennials.

“Creativity positively impacts many parts of our lives and helps us grow cognitively, emotionally and even professionally,” said Brit Morin, CEO and founder of Brit + Co. “As part of a larger initiative to understand how creativity impacts our lives, we partnered with Crayola to create a coloring book for grown-ups as another way for our audience to express themselves creatively, while reaping the positive health benefits of this popular trend.”

Brit + Co conducts an annual survey, The State of the Maker Movement Report, to analyze and assess those who are actively making as both a hobby and profession in today’s creative society. This year’s study revealed that 88% of makers agree that their creative hobbies are a way for them to relax and de-stress. There are countless studies, research and articles that claim coloring books for grown-ups are yet another outlet to help reduce stress and anxiety. The benefits of coloring have also been closely compared to the benefits of meditation; they each help center and balance a busy mind.

Additional data from this year’s report showed that most people take a break from their creative hobbies during their transitional years of high school and college, but often return at the age of 26, which helps further validate the need for this growing coloring trend among adults in particular. This demographic is looking for practical ways to express themselves creatively while also finding an escape from their busy and sometimes stressful lives.

“For over 100 years, Crayola has provided children an opportunity to unleash their imaginations and bring their creations to life,” said Kim Rompilla, Director, Platform Marketing at Crayola, “This partnership is a terrific opportunity for Crayola and Brit + Co to show our belief that everyone is creative. Coloring is a classic, creative activity that provides an escape which transforms black and white pages into colorful works of art.”

Brit + Co received over 1400 design submissions from their community and also extended the invitation through 99designs, the world’s largest online graphic design marketplace, to reach even more designers and creators. Pattern Play is a true reflection of the artist community with a dedicated appendix featuring the artists and designers who helped create this pattern-packed coloring book for grown-ups. Pattern Play is offered at $9.99 exclusively at Target stores and Target.com in the DIY section surrounded by Crayola coloring products.
