Federated Wireless Awarded Contract from Leidos to Participate in Shared Spectrum Access for Radar and Communications (SSPARC) Research Program

The subcontract provides Federated Wireless with the opportunity to demonstrate its Spectrum Access System (SAS) with an integrated commercial LTE network to enable radar and commercial wireless spectrum sharing.

ARLINGTON, Va.--()--Federated Wireless, Inc., which develops technologies to extend the utilization of spectrum resources and carrier networks, announced that it was awarded a subcontract from Leidos to participate in the Shared Spectrum Access for Radar and Communications (SSPARC) Phase II research program.

The SSPARC research program run by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) aims to expand spectrum sharing between radar and commercial wireless systems. Leidos provides SSPARC with innovative solutions to resolve the problem of spectrum congestion. The congestion limits operational capabilities due to the increasing deployment and bandwidth of wireless communications, the use of net-centric and unmanned systems, and the need for increased flexibility in radar and communications.

Federated Wireless’ technology is a dynamic three-tiered Spectrum Access System (SAS) that is designed to enable carriers and other industry participants to unlock additional licensed shared spectrum capacity. As a subcontractor in the SSPARC program, Federated Wireless seeks to demonstrate the SAS with an integrated commercial LTE network to enable radar and commercial wireless spectrum sharing.

“We are excited to be selected by Leidos to be the SAS provider for the SSPARC Phase II program to expand radar and commercial spectrum sharing beyond the current FCC 3.5 GHZ rulemaking. This effort facilitates validation of our emerging SAS technology and begins to unlock additional spectrum sharing opportunities between radar and commercial wireless systems,” said Federated Wireless Chief Executive Officer Iyad Tarazi.

Federated Wireless’ approach seeks to provide for allocation and management of spectrum resources in real time. If successful, wireless networks will be enhanced, spectrum capacity will be increased, and the end user will get the high quality of experience they demand.

Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, Federated Wireless is a subsidiary of Allied Minds (LSE: ALM). More information about the company can be found at www.federatedwireless.com.
