NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Travelers Foundation, the charitable arm of The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV), today announced that it is accepting applications for its annual Travelers Excellence in Community Resilience Award. The award was created to recognize organizations that are dedicated to helping communities prepare for, and recover from, catastrophic events. The winning organization will receive a $100,000 grant presented at the annual “Kicking Off Hurricane Preparedness Season” symposium in June, hosted by the company’s public policy division, the Travelers Institute.
“Effectively planning for catastrophes, and being able to quickly recover from them, stabilizes communities and helps them to thrive,” said Marlene Ibsen, CEO and President of the Travelers Foundation. “Travelers is pleased to offer this award to organizations that demonstrate leadership in addressing safety, community resilience or financial threats related to catastrophic events.”
The inaugural Travelers Excellence in Community Resilience Award was presented in June to Team Rubicon, a nonprofit organization whose important work leverages the skills and experiences of military veterans to deploy emergency response teams after disasters. “It was an honor to be recognized for the work we do to help communities,” said Jake Wood, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Team Rubicon. “The Travelers Excellence in Community Resilience Award has helped to improve our ability to train veterans in responding to disasters and help those in need.”
