DecisionSim, Inc. to Provide Patient Education for Veterans Choice Program

Novel Patient Engagement Approach Soon to be Available to Millions of Veterans

CHADDS FORD, Pa.--()--DecisionSim, Inc., the leading provider of simulation-based learning platforms, today announced it has been awarded a subcontract by Engineering and Computer Simulations, Inc. to support a new initiative for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The company’s flagship product, DecisionSim™, will be used to educate and train Veterans about the Veterans Choice Program - part of the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014. The DecisionSim initiative is scheduled for rollout this fall.

The Veterans Choice Program, launched in 2014, offers eligible Veterans increased access to medical care. DecisionSim, a novel and fully customizable simulation platform, will educate eligible Veterans on effectively utilizing the Veterans Choice Program and understanding its benefits.

The initiative demonstrates the versatility of DecisionSim as a platform to both assess and improve decision-making. The technology offers a branched learning approach allowing users to navigate their own experience and access the information most relevant to them. Users will be able to select the education specific to their needs such as preparing to call the Choice hotline, learning how to arrange an appointment with a Choice provider and understanding how to fill a prescription from a Choice provider. DecisionSim also provides comprehensive, anonymous, real-time data gathering to allow the VA to identify trends and knowledge gaps.

“We are excited to offer this new, customized educational approach for our Veterans who are eligible for the Choice Program, and think it will enhance their ability to easily and conveniently access timely information,” said Manny Dominguez, Ph.D., Deputy Chief Learning Officer for the Veterans Health Administration Employee Education System (EES). “We are also equally excited about the ability to analyze trends to provide guidance and support for future educational programs.”

The DecisionSim platform incorporates best practices coupled with simple-to-follow instructions and engaging content to ensure understanding and correct use by eligible Veterans. Participating patients and their caregivers will receive text messages inviting them to opt in to brief educational activities, accessible on their mobile phone or computer, that explain Choice Program benefits, processes and qualification details. Users can access all the information directly from their mobile device for easy integration into daily routines. Educational content will be delivered by text, audio and video and contain interactive features, user feedback surveys, and one-click access to the Veterans Choice support hotline.

VA, the largest integrated healthcare delivery system in the U.S., started using DecisionSim in 2011 for simulation-based assessment and training for its healthcare professionals. Since then, it has incorporated the technology into the broader EES group for both clinical and non-clinical learning needs. The Veterans Choice Program represents the latest application of DecisionSim.

“We are proud that our leading-edge technology is being deployed in a multi-platform approach across a number of VA’s assessment and training needs,” said Bob Yayac, CEO of DecisionSim, Inc. “Simulation is a proven education method and we look forward to furthering our collaboration with the VA as it continues to expand its use of simulation platforms for both providers and patients.”

DecisionSim, Inc.’s has teamed with Engineering and Computer Simulations, the leading provider of advanced learning technologies, to support the Veterans Choice program. “We are excited to have DecisionSim on our team as they have been a valued provider of simulation to the VA for many years,” stated Larry Kayne, President, ECS, Inc.
