Peak Harvest Health to Compete for Medical Cannabis Cultivation License in Maryland

CUMBERLAND, Md.--()--Peak Harvest Health (PHH), a Maryland-based medical cannabis manufacturing company, announced today it will officially pursue a medical cannabis cultivation license from the Natalie M. LaPrade Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission. The Commission publicly released the application today for potential bidders of up to 15 licenses anticipated to be awarded in Maryland in late 2015 or early 2016.

“Since Maryland’s medical cannabis law passed in April 2014, the Commission has diligently researched its impact on Maryland residents and how best to implement the process for awarding licenses. Not only will this industry create new jobs, stimulate economic activity and increase tax revenue, it will bring Maryland doctors a natural and effective tool for treating a variety of patient conditions,” said Ethan Ruby, founder of PHH. “The state’s approach to regulating medical cannabis aligns with PHH’s patient-centric philosophy of producing high-quality medicine for those suffering from a range of ailments. We welcome strong laws as they will help ensure this emerging industry is safe for all those involved.”

Maryland’s regulatory framework includes regulated access for patients to receive the medicine and strict operational controls tracking the entire “seed to sale” process. Mandatory laboratory testing by an independent third party ensures that the medicine is 100 percent pure, and contains no harmful pesticides or contaminants.

“As my partners and I explored creating a medical cannabis business in Maryland, our top priority was to work with a seasoned executive who shared our values of producing quality medicine for patients who can benefit from this type of treatment,” said Peter Kirsch, a founder of PHH, which was established in January 2014 with a mission to responsibly and ethically lead the emerging cannabis industry in Maryland. “After dozens of conversations with experts throughout the industry, we met Ethan and knew he was in this for the right reasons. Not only is he a patient that understands how effective this medicine is, but he is a successful entrepreneur with existing operations that do research on and cultivation of medical cannabis in multiple highly restrictive states.”

Ruby, who became a T6 paraplegic after a pedestrian accident in 2000, is now dedicated to helping qualified patients get access to the unique benefits of medical cannabis in a safe, legal and reliable manner.

PHH recently committed to locating its production and processing operations in Cumberland, Md., at the Riverside Industrial Park. In August 2015, the Mayor of Cumberland and City Council unanimously passed a resolution stating that they “exclusively support the application of Peak Harvest Health LLC to the State of Maryland for the cultivation and manufacture of medical cannabis in the city of Cumberland.” PHH projects up to 35 new jobs will be created in Cumberland during its first year of operation, and more than 100 new jobs by 2020.
