i2 Capital Expands Investment Firm with Arrival of Jonathan Stearns and Rob Wallace

Firm also announces close of Series A funding to support continued growth

WASHINGTON--()--i2 Capital, a specialty finance firm that sponsors structured investment vehicles for the impact investment marketplace, announced today that Jonathan Stearns and Rob Wallace will join as Partners, with Stearns serving as Chief Investment Officer and Wallace serving as Chief Government Affairs Officer. i2 Capital also announced that it had closed a series A funding round to support the firm’s efforts to sponsor impact investments in conservation, education and energy.

A recognized leader in impact investing, Stearns has more than 20 years experience in private capital investments, with prior experience including serving as Managing Director of Pine Bridge Investments and AIG’s Global Investment Group. Wallace served as Manager of U.S. Government Relations for GE Energy, where he co-chaired GE Energy’s Government Relations Operating Council, which coordinated the company’s global approach to policy and practice. Prior to that, Wallace served as staff director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.

“Jonathan and Rob’s arrival makes clear our commitment to building a world-class, multi-disciplinary team prepared to address the multi-faceted challenges facing our economy, environment and society,” said Ashley Allen, founder and CEO. “Their collective experience will ensure we successfully launch our next series of impact investment vehicles that provide socially committed investors with the opportunity to participate in investments that deliver meaningful social and environmental impact along with risk adjusted market rate returns.”

i2 Capital also announced today it had closed on series A funding which will be used to support the expansion of i2 Capital’s efforts to create structured investment vehicles for the impact investment marketplace. Terms of the funding were not disclosed.

“While many believe impact investing is still in its formative stages,” said Jonathan Stearns, “i2 Capital has a clear vision on how to create value in this emerging market with an innovative approach that uses structured finance to deliver powerful social and environmental impact.”

“i2 Capital sits at the forefront of emerging conservation finance and energy efficiency markets,” added Rob Wallace. “The firm played an instrumental role in the launch of the country’s largest conservation bank, and it continues to lead the advance of innovative conservation finance solutions. i2 Capital has the experience required to create investment opportunities of scale that can transform private sector conservation.”

With the funding, i2 will expand its efforts to grow the number of conservation banks in the U.S., and create new investment vehicles that support the education and energy sectors. i2 also will continue its efforts to shape the still emerging impact investing marketplace. As part of this effort, i2 will once again co-host the impactDEALS Forum with the Aspen Institute in February 2016, with the conference to take place in Washington, D.C.
