IMA Recognizes Second European School Under Higher Education Endorsement Program

ZURICH--()--The B.A. in Accounting and the B.A. Accounting & Finance programs at the Strathclyde Business School (SBS) in Glasgow have been approved for endorsement under IMA’s® Higher Education Endorsement Program. Joining Germany’s EBS Business School, the SBS is the second European school to achieve this distinction.

The Higher Education Endorsement Program recognizes undergraduate and graduate accounting programs that meet the educational standards that enable students to pursue the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) credential. In order to seek endorsement by IMA, higher education programs must substantially cover the content of the CMA exam in their curriculum and have adequate faculty resources. In addition, they must be accredited by a recognized accreditation organization and have a faculty member designated as an IMA Campus Advocate.

“I am delighted that the University of Strathclyde is leading the way as the first institution in the United Kingdom to receive recognition of the quality of our programs, and subsequent approval under IMA’s Higher Education Endorsement Program,” said Dr. Julia Smith, reader in accounting and finance at the SBS.

Gyulnash Wild, IMA Europe business development manager, is convinced that both organizations will benefit from the new endorsement: “This endorsement helps the reputation of IMA Europe and the SBS and enables both parties to build a long lasting partnership.”

The SBS is one of four faculties forming the University of Strathclyde. With around 200 academic staff and more than 4,500 students, it is the only business school in Scotland and one of only 66 business schools in the world to be triple accredited. It holds accreditations from the international bodies AMBA, AACSB and EQUIS. The Department of Accounting & Finance at the SBS, established in 1952, offers Accounting as principal subject on the Business School’s BA degree.

Professor Krishna Paudyal, head of the Accounting and Finance Department at the SBS, is certain that the international recognition afforded by IMA endorsement will serve to enhance the value of their graduates. “It is a great pleasure to have our management accounting education be endorsed by IMA. This certification reconfirms the qualities of our academic provisions and students and should be instrumental in enhancing the marketability of our graduates in international job markets.”
