NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On the heels of a ground-breaking announcement of the world’s first industrial scale Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) manufacturing facility in the U.S., Norsk Titanium AS (NTi), a global leader in manufacturing premium quality titanium components for industrial applications, has sponsored Norman Nato, a GP2 series driver for Arden International, a team set up by Red Bull F1’s Christian Horner and his father Garry. This sponsorship is yet another example of NTi’s continued efforts to introduce its game-changing technology across industries, including the high-end automotive sector.
“It is a privilege for NTi to associate itself with Norman Nato, who is an up-and-coming racing driver. Much like the disruptive nature of NTi’s advanced 3D printing technology, Norman has a bright future in his field,” said NTi President & Chief Executive Officer Warren M. Boley, Jr. “Single-seater racing is at the pinnacle of the automotive industry and is of much interest to NTi as it requires an extensive use of carbon composites with tailor-made titanium components.”
NTi is the first U.S.-based 3D printing company capable of producing complex titanium components that will meet aerospace quality requirements. The patented additive manufacturing technology uses titanium wire feedstock as raw material with a patented plasma arc as heat source to offer significantly cost benefits and shorter lead times in the manufacture of titanium components.
Christopher E. Kubasik, Vice Chairman of NTi’s Board of Directors and President & Chief Executive Officer of New York-based Seabury Advisory Group, added, “The applications of our proprietary DMD technology in the automotive sector, similar as in the potential application for the Boeing 787 and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft, are significant and build on the company’s commitment to innovation while focusing on affordability required by the most demanding of industrial sectors.”
A young French driver, Norman Nato, is known for finishing as the runner-up in the 2010 F4 Eurocup 1.6 season and the 2012 Formula Renault 2.0 Alps season, and for winning both in Monaco and Hungary in the 2014 Formula Renault 3.5 Series season. Formula One Management, led by Bernie Ecclestone started GP2 in 2005 intending for it to become the main feeder series for F1. The races take place on the Saturday and Sunday of a F1 GP weekend, with practice and qualifying on the Friday. Past Champions include Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Nico Hulkenburg, Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean. Norman will be racing next in Spa-Francorchamps (August), Monza (September), Sochi (October), Bahrain (November) and Abu Dhabi (November).
