Amerigroup Nevada and Clark County School District Partnership Offers Free Health Screenings and Immunizations to Students and Families at Schools

LAS VEGAS--()--Today, during a back-to-school fair at West Prep Academy, Amerigroup Nevada and Clark County School District (CCSD) announced a partnership that will provide health services including immunizations, health screenings and sports physicals for students at schools across the county.

These events will help facilitate the required immunizations for CCSD students. Additionally, parents of student athletes will also be able to ensure that their children comply with the required sports physicals. Siblings of CCSD students are also welcome to take part in the events and receive dental and vision screenings. Additional health fair activities for family members, such as health education and screenings for blood pressure, glucose and other health conditions may be available at some events.

“According to the State of Nevada, children and youth enrolling in public schools must present proof that they have been immunized, and Amerigroup Nevada is proud to be offering these immunizations to ensure that students are healthy so that their school year isn’t disrupted by illness,” said Eric Lloyd, Amerigroup Nevada president. “By bringing services to CCSD schools, we hope that this innovative partnership eases the back-to-school routine for parents and encourages them to take advantage of the other services available to help keep their entire family healthy,” added Lloyd.

Earlier this year, CCSD District Board of Trustees approved this partnership and granted Amerigroup Nevada authority to work with various schools in the district to supplement health education activities including immunizations services for students and children required for CCSD enrollment during the 2015-2016 school year.

“Ensuring our students begin the school year ready to learn means more than making sure they are academically proficient,” said Pat Skorkowsky, Clark County School District, superintendent. “Partnerships like this provide services to students who may otherwise struggle to have their basic medical needs met. With assistance from Amerigroup Nevada, more students will begin the school year better prepared so they can focus on learning.”

These events will be coordinated by Amerigroup Nevada and respective CCSD officials in partnership with various third-party Clark County health providers, including the Future Smiles, Immunize Nevada, Nevada Health Centers, University of Nevada School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics and UNLV School of Dental Medicine. All CCSD students and their families are encouraged to take advantage of these health services to lead the way for a healthy school year.
