Malaysia’s Tenaga Nasional Berhad Launches Customer Engagement Program with Opower

Personalized Energy Information Empowers Malaysians to Manage Energy Use and Save Money

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--()--Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the largest electricity company in Malaysia, has partnered with Opower (NYSE: OPWR), the global leader in cloud software for the utility industry, to launch a pilot customer engagement program that will help customers manage their energy use and save money on their monthly electricity bills.

TNB serves an estimated 8.6 million customers in the Malaysian Peninsula and is the first utility in Southeast Asia to unveil a program of this kind. The pilot is part of TNB’s corporate strategy to empower and engage its residential customers. It will initially serve 200,000 households in Klang Valley, Negeri Sembilan and Malacca.

“This customer engagement program is part of our latest efforts to transform the customer experience,” said Datuk Seri Azman Mohd, President/Chief Executive Officer at Tenaga Nasional Berhad. “TNB has partnered with Opower to create a program that will give our customers greater insight into their energy usage, and empower them to control their usage and save money on their monthly energy bills.”

Launched this week, the new program gives customers personalized free Home Energy Reports and access to a new online portal. Customers can choose whether they access their information in English or in Bahasa Malaysia.

The Home Energy Reports and the new portal provide clearly-defined information including customized energy-saving tips based on past usage and household characteristics. Customers will also receive targeted help saving energy, based on their past behavior and the homes they live in.
