Sorry Verizon FiOS: You’re Mistaken, Cablevision Can Continue to Point Out FiOS’ Inferiority

BETHPAGE, N.Y.--()--In a press release yesterday, Verizon mistakenly asserted that a judge had temporarily barred Cablevision from making anti-FiOS statements. The temporary order, however, only applies to the very limited category of anti-FiOS statements that specifically call Verizon FiOS “liars,” tells “lies” or the like. Cablevision is free to make any other substantiated anti-FiOS statements, including but not limited to:

  • FiOS is inferior because it has no public WiFi network of its own
    • Optimum WiFi offers a faster experience than cellular
  • FiOS is inferior because the FiOS Quantum Router costs $200 while the comparable Optimum router – which is available to all Optimum Online customers – is free
  • FiOS is inferior because with the FiOS app customers can only watch HALF of their TV line up; that’s half of what Optimum customers receive with the Optimum app
  • FiOS is inferior because the Optimum Multi-room DVR lets you record 25% more shows at once compared to the FiOS DVR. Plus, the FiOS DVR costs twice as much
  • FiOS is inferior because if customers want weekend installation they have to pay extra for it; with Optimum there is never a penalty for weekend service
  • FiOS is inferior because it does not carry News 12. Cablevision offers seven award-winning regional hyperlocal news channels with complete coverage across the tri-state area, plus five dedicated traffic and weather channels

Cablevision issued the following statement:

“Verizon is mistaken. Cablevision is absolutely permitted to tell the truth to consumers about FiOS’ inferiority, so we are going to continue doing that anywhere and everywhere we can.”
