TE Connectivity Named a Winner of the Prestigious UBM Canon’s ACE Award

Coolbit Optical Engines Wins in the Passives, Interconnects and Electromechanical Category

HARRISBURG, Pa.--()--TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity, today announced its Coolbit optical engines have been named a winner in the EE Times and EDN 2015 UBM Canon ACE (Annual Creativity in Electronics) Awards in the Passives, Interconnects and Electromechanical category. The awards program honors the people and companies behind the technologies and products that are changing the world of electronics. The winners were announced at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, July 21, at the Santa Clara Convention Center, during the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley.

“Our Coolbit optical engines are powering the next generation of high-speed optical modules with significantly lower power consumption,” said Phil Gilchrist, CTO, Data and Devices, TE. “We are delighted with our selection as the winner of the ACE award for this technology.”

Coolbit optical engines convert data from electrical signals to optical signals, and add to TE’s extensive portfolio of fiber connectivity for central office, data center, enterprise and undersea applications. TE offers active optic device mounts, light emission components, media converters, cable assemblies and transceivers. Our newest line of active optical cable assemblies (AOCs) and transceivers featuring Coolbit optical engines performs at up to 400 Gigabit per second (Gbps) while consuming extremely low power. With quad small form-factor pluggable 28 Gbps (QSFP28) modules performing at less than 1.5 watts per transceiver, this new line of 25 Gbps active optics can help communication systems achieve up to 60 percent more power savings than existing solutions. At the component level alone, this low power consumption can translate into significant system savings. Additionally, for every watt of power saved at this level, equipment operators realize additional infrastructure OPEX savings.

“We are continually amazed at the level of creativity in the design, innovation and technology exemplified by these award winners,” said Suzanne Deffree, executive editor at UBM Canon's EDN. “The ACE Awards celebrate the highest achievements in innovation and creativity in electronics design, and selecting one organization or individual that stands out above the rest is incredibly challenging. We are pleased to be able to celebrate their achievements.”

A panel of EE Times and EDN editors narrowed down the entries to three finalists in each category, based on the criteria set forth in an online submission form. Winners were determined from among the finalists by a panel of independent judges.
