TrueCar Finds July is Ideal Month for Premium Sports Car Deals amid Summer Selling Season

Savings in sporty segment led by BMW’s Z4 roadster

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--()--Consumers in the market for a premium sports car may want to consider buying this month as July yields the largest percentage discount off MSRP for the segment, according to TrueCar, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRUE), the negotiation-free car buying and selling mobile marketplace.

TrueCar’s analysis of the four most recent years of new vehicle transactional data indicates that July is the best month for deals on luxury sports cars, with an average discount of 6.9 percent off MSRP. Within the segment, BMW’s convertible Z4 roadster is available at a particularly appealing price and makes the month’s list of best savings on new vehicles, TrueCar finds.

“Summer is the perfect time to cruise in a convertible, and it turns out that July is also the best time to buy one,” said Eric Lyman, TrueCar’s vice president of industry insights. “Detailed analysis of real-time market data allows TrueCar to identify the optimal month to buy for every type of consumer, from those in the market for subcompacts all the way up to exotic luxury cars.”

The sporty Z4 this month is available for an average transaction price of $53,503, or 7.7 percent off of MSRP. Lexus is also promoting special financing this month on its RC 350 coupe, currently available with a 0.9 percent interest loan for 36 months.

RAM 1500 Savings Amid F-Series Pressure

FCA’s full-size Ram 1500 pickup leads the list of best savings this month. Overall, the large pickup segment is heavily discounting in July as competitive pressure builds due to the popularity of the 2015 Ford F-Series trucks. F-Series inventory levels rebounded at the end of the second quarter. Time spent on dealer lots was only 49 days for the Ford model in June compared to a segment average of 66 days. Full-size truck deals continue this month following June’s 11.4 percent discount, the highest among all segments.

“All-new model change-overs always put pricing pressure on competitors,” Lyman said. “But high demand for the innovative, all new light-weight aluminum-alloy F-150 is putting intense pressure on full-size pickup segment competitors who are responding with increased discounting to move the metal.”

Along with Ford’s new F-Series, the total pickup truck race intensified this year with General Motors adding two midsize trucks: the Canyon and Colorado. In the first half of 2015, GM’s four pickup models, the Canyon, Colorado, Sierra and Silverado, outsold F-Series, by 76,000 units. With F-Series inventory improving, however, the pickup leadership race will tighten through the end of the year.

Published monthly, the “TrueSavings” report analyzes recent transaction prices and identifies opportunities for consumer savings.
