Phenomenex Raises $19,450 for American Red Cross in Soccer Charity Cup

TORRANCE, Calif.--()--On June 26, global leader in the research and manufacture of advanced technologies for the separation sciences, Phenomenex, Inc., challenged the American Red Cross to a rematch during their second annual Soccer Charity Cup at Zamperini Stadium in Torrance, California. With Phenomenex pledging a $1,000 donation per goal scored, both teams were motivated to play hard.

Torrance Mayor Pat Furey kicked the day off with a pre-game speech and decisive coin toss. And, following a defeat in 2014, Phenomenex “Phenoms” vowed to bring on a friendly but spirited fight against the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region team, headed by CEO Jarrett Barrios. During halftime, Barrios and Phenomenex CEO and American Red Cross Board Member Fasha Mahjoor joined forces to defend the goal from penalty kicks by various audience members, resulting in four more goals scored for even more donations.

After a valiant effort by both teams, Phenomenex saw a 5-1 victory over the American Red Cross.

“Spectacular sportsmanship and encouragement from our fans led to a brilliant win for our Phenoms,” Mahjoor said. “However, the true champions are the American Red Cross and the ultimate beneficiaries — the lives they are helping to save every day.”

After the match, Phenomenex presented a $10,000 check to the American Red Cross. And, in a wonderful show of support, ten other American Red Cross Board Members donated an additional $9,450, leading to a grand total of $19,450 that went immediately and directly to important American Red Cross disaster relief and preparedness projects. Both Phenomenex and the American Red Cross are grateful for their selfless and spirited support.

“All of us at the Red Cross are so delighted with Phenomenex and their creative, out-of-the box fundraising activities that are held many times throughout the year – their incredible support over the last quarter century has truly been an inspiration to us all,” said Barrios.
