Transfer of FAFSA.com Domain Name for the Benefit of U.S. Department of Education

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--()--Student Financial Aid Services, Inc. (SFAS), a company dedicated to expanding students’ access to college, today announces the intended transfer of the Internet domain name www.fafsa.com to the U.S. Department of Education.

For the past 24 years, SFAS has provided a fee-based consultation and advisory service that assists students and families with understanding and applying for student financial aid. Such services are recognized under section 483(d) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 as a way of helping families with the process of securing financial aid. The company has also maintained a longstanding and successful philanthropic program to provide low-income students with free financial aid advice, FAFSA application assistance and other helpful support. More than 70,000 students have received FAFSA assistance at no charge, and more than 700,000 students and families have benefited from free phone consultations regarding the financial aid process.

SFAS acquired the www.fafsa.com domain name 20 years ago, before the Department of Education offered individuals the option of filing the federal student aid application (FAFSA) online. At the time, all FAFSAs were required to be completed and submitted on paper.

“During the past 24 years, we’ve helped more than 2.2 million clients quickly and accurately access financial aid information and receive professional advice and assistance,” said Mary A.C. Fallon, Communications Director for SFAS. “The transfer of the domain name will support the Department’s efforts toward achieving a seamless process for access to relevant aid information and online FAFSA filing.”

After the domain name transition, SFAS’s clients can continue to access the company’s services at www.SFAS.com.
