SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--18th Street Arts Center is pleased to present a solo exhibition, generously supported by the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan, of new works by Taiwanese digital artist Chih-Chien Chen. Taking place in the Atrium Gallery at 18th Street Arts Center from July 13 to August 29, 2015, FLOWING is presented in conjunction with a three-month residency; Chen will exhibit an installation of video, sculpture, and drawing, focusing on time and temporality.
Chen makes use of the city as both canvas and material. Recently he has repeatedly experimented with a potted Bougainvillea plant. He arduously recreates each fallen leaf with copper wire, making dozens of fragile sculptures to memorialize the leaf’s fleeting existence. In his drawing piece, Chen attempts to capture light as the keeper of time by tracing the shadows of the Bougainvillea plant as they elongate and distort during the day. To the artist, these records of a forgotten corner of the city or an overlooked landscape, imperfect as they are, manifest into a conservation of lost time.
Chen Chih-Chien is a Taipei, Taiwan based digital artist whose work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Taiwan and in international exhibitions throughout Europe and Asia. In addition to his work as a solo artist, Chen is a member of the digital art collective LuxuryLogico.
