Overlake Medical Center Receives Bariatric Surgery Quality Designation from Aetna

Eastside hospital now holds four Aetna quality designations

BELLEVUE, Wash.--()--Overlake Medical Center has been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality® (IOQ) Bariatric Surgery Facility for treating individuals living with morbid or extreme obesity.

Aetna makes information about the quality and cost of health care services available to its members to help them make informed decisions about their health care needs. In line with this goal, Aetna recognizes hospitals and facilities in its network that offer specialized clinical services for certain health conditions. Facilities are selected for the designation for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care.

“Receiving this designation affirms the dedication and commitment demonstrated by our physicians, nurses and support team members that are part of Overlake’s metabolic and bariatric surgery program,” said J. Michael Marsh, President and CEO of Overlake Medical Center. “We’re proud of this accomplishment and the comprehensive, patient-centered care we provide to our community.”

Overlake’s bariatric surgery program offers patients multiple surgical options including gastric sleeve, adjustable gastric banding management, gastric bypass and robotic da Vinci surgery. Overlake’s program is also accredited by the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

“Aetna’s designation reflects the extensive work put forth by our teams to consistently deliver high-quality care to our patients,” said Overlake’s Medical Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Dr. Thien Nguyen. “I am honored to be part of this program and I know that our teams feel very fortunate to be able to improve the lives of our patients.”

This is the third IOQ designation received by Overlake Medical Center. Aetna has also recognized the hospital with IOQ status for the treatment of heart rhythm disorders and for total joint replacement (orthopedic) procedures. The hospital also has an Aetna quality designation for its Elective Delivery Infant Safety Program.
