ARROW ELECTRONICS INTRODUCES OPEN SOURCE BOARD WITH NEW FREESCALE I.MX 7 MICROPROCESSOR

Arrow Electronics, Inc. (NYSE:ARW) today announced at the Freescale Technology Forum that it is now offering an open-source, specification-compliant board that is based on the new Freescale i.MX 7 microprocessor. Arrow also collaborated with Qualcomm Atheros Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, on the board’s Bluetooth & Wi-Fi capabilities and with Linear Technology on the board’s power supply.

“The i.MX 7 series-based, open-source board provided by Arrow enables the developer community to create secure, power-efficient systems with drastically reduced time to market,” said Ron Martino, vice president of applications processors and advanced technology adoption for Freescale’s MCU group. “Leveraging the industry-leading attributes of Freescale’s i.MX 7 series technology and Arrow’s i.MX-certified application engineering workforce, developers will introduce a broad range of devices with longer battery life, higher levels of security and performance-on-demand for evolving Internet of Tomorrow applications.”

Arrow collaborates with its extensive supplier and manufacturer network to design a range of standardized, open-source boards for the nonprofit Linaro 96Boards community. The goal of its 96Boards initiative is to provide an option for standardization of system-on-a-chip (SoC) boards for software developers, the maker community and embedded product manufacturers. Standardized boards, like the one Arrow announced today, enable developers to focus on innovating on a range of compatible add-on software and hardware products.

The board that Arrow developed with Freescale, Qualcomm Atheros and Linear Technology is compatible with the 96Boards Consumer Edition Specification, which targets the mobile, embedded and digital home segments. To learn more about the Linaro 96Boards initiative, please visit www.96boards.org.
