Damballa Appoints Stephen Newman as CTO

ATLANTA--()--Damballa, a leader in advanced threat detection and containment, today announced the promotion of Stephen Newman to chief technology officer. Newman succeeds former CTO Brian Foster, who joins Damballa’s Strategic Advisory Board. Newman was previously vice president of products for the company. With the appointment, the company also announced that Joseph Ward has been promoted to vice president of products.

Since joining Damballa in 2009, Newman’s team has successfully built upon the company’s 16 patented/patent-pending innovations to create advanced threat detection solutions that harness big data science. Throughout his career, he has designed products and product strategies for leading, innovative companies including Secure Computing, McAfee, Boston Acoustics, MegaPath, and EarthLink. Newman holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.

Joseph Ward has been with Damballa since 2010, most recently as Senior Director of Product and R&D strategy. In this role, he has led Damballa’s research strategy, creating a pipeline approach for projects from conception to productization, streamlining the detection technology process, and overseeing the deployment of over six new detection technologies into the product. He is the primary inventor on four patent pending technologies presently in Failsafe. Prior to joining the company, he held product management and sales engineering roles at McAfee, Secure Computing and CipherTrust.
