Freshfields Appoints Top-Tier Civil Litigation Lawyer to US Practice

NEW YORK--()--Leading international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed litigation lawyer Linda Martin to its US civil litigation practice. She joins the firm as a partner in its New York office and will take up her role on September 8, 2015.

Linda has nearly two decades of experience resolving a variety of complex civil litigation matters and commercial disputes, as well as considerable expertise advising on litigation-related issues for transactional clients and matters. She has substantial experience with financial services clients, in addition to her work within the professional services, insurance, energy, technology, telecom, consumer products, and pharma/healthcare industries. Linda joins Freshfields from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where she has been a partner since 2006.

Commenting on Linda’s appointment, David Scott, Freshfields’ global Dispute Resolution practice head, said, “Freshfields is delighted that Linda is joining the firm and we are all very much looking forward to working with her. She is a first-class lawyer with excellent experience who I know will be a great complement to our civil litigation team and the wider Freshfields US practice.

“Linda is joining us at a time of significant growth for Freshfields in the US. In the five years since we launched our US civil litigation and white collar practices, as a complement to our arbitration practice, we have consistently grown and consolidated our market position and we continue to see the volume of both our US domestic and cross-border work increasing. Our success has been recognized recently by a string of accolades, both for our lawyers and the practice as a whole. Hiring Linda is further evidence of our commitment to the US and to ensuring our clients have the best possible representation from the firm.”

Linda added, “I am excited to join Freshfields’ litigation practice. The firm is rightly acknowledged as a global leader in the litigation space, and to work alongside such talented and experienced colleagues will be a wonderful experience. I’m very much looking forward to helping maintain and grow the Freshfields presence, both in the US and around the world.”

Adam Siegel, regional managing partner for the US practice and co-head of the firm’s global investigations practice, said, “Adding another first-rate practitioner with Linda’s skills and experience to our US civil litigation team is one more key milestone in building out our ability to assist international and domestic clients with their most significant opportunities and challenges in US courts. Our superlative US litigation team looks forward to working with Linda as we continue to grow our team here in the US.”

The Freshfields US Dispute Resolution group comprises 15 partners and over 70 associates. Significant recent mandates have included the firm’s representing Raoul Weil in his successful defense against the US Department of Justice, for which partners Aaron Marcu and Kim Zelnick were awarded the 2015 American Lawyer Transatlantic Litigation Award, and representing BG Associates against Argentina in the first-ever investment treaty arbitration case to be addressed by the Supreme Court of the United States. The case won The American Lawyer Global Dispute of the Year in International Arbitration Award (2014). Kim Zelnick and fellow litigation partner Elliot Friedman were also recognized as legal Rising Stars by Law360 this year, with Elliot additionally recognized as a Rising Star by the New York Law Journal.
