Hawaii.gov Wins Best In Class Award

Hawaii.gov Honored for Excellence In Government by the Interactive Media Awards

HONOLULU--()--For two years running, the Interactive Media Awards™ (IMA) has named Hawaii Information Consortium (eHawaii.gov) as a Best in Class winner in the Government category for its work on Hawaii.gov, the official website of the Aloha State. The coveted award is the highest honor bestowed by IMA and it represents the very best in planning, execution and overall professionalism.

Designed for mobile and built for touch, speech, and accessibility for all users, Hawaii.gov showcases the very best in Web design thinking. Highlighting Hawaii’s diversity, native culture, and the uniqueness of each island, Hawaii.gov also provides a Web experience that truly reflects the Aloha state.

Originally launched in 2013, Hawaii set a new standard for state websites by delivering the most striking changes and groundbreaking enhancements to a Web portal in recent history. The dynamic portal makes distinct connections between government, data sets and information, all while being free for all to use and build on to make new connections between Hawaiian citizens and their government.

In 2014, Hawaii.gov upped the ante with another first of its kind: the gamification of government. Instead of forcing citizens to search for what they need, the site highlights what is directly relevant to them through a personalized service called my.hawaii.gov. My.hawaii.gov integrates with seven of the 17 departments and includes a rich history of all business conducted online with the state.

mySavings, a service within my.hawaii.gov, demonstrates the benefits to citizens of conducting their business with the government online by creating awareness around the amount of paper, miles and time saved. In addition, it gives helpful, Hawaii-centric tips for what users can do with their newfound time. See it at: m.hi.gov/win

To further help citizens stay connected to their government, Hawaii.gov offers 273 social media pages, more than 1,400 Twitter followers, a Flickr photo pool, and 30 YouTube videos.

The state’s official website was redesigned at no cost to Hawaii taxpayers through a public-private partnership between the state’s portal manager, Hawaii Information Consortium, LLC., a subsidiary of NIC, and the state of Hawaii.

This Best in Class award is the 15th award to be received in honor of Hawaii.gov since its release in April 2013. The judging consisted of various criteria, including design, usability, innovation in technical features, standards compliance, and content. In order to win this award level, the site had to meet strict guidelines in each area – an achievement only a fraction of sites in the IMA competition earn each quarter.
