FreeWavz Celebrates Winning Red Herring Top 100 North America Award

Momentum continues as company prepares to launch first wire-free smart fitness earphones

MAITLAND, Fla.--()--Continuing to build on a series of honors for innovation and the potential to disrupt the burgeoning wearable technology market, FreeWavz was selected as a Red Herring Top 100 North America Award winner this week in San Diego.

FreeWavz is launching the world’s first wire-free smart fitness earphones with integrated fitness tracking, heart rate monitoring and Bluetooth technology this summer. It was one of only two consumer electronics companies chosen for the award, which honors the year’s most promising private technology companies from the U.S. and Canada. It was selected from a pool of 1,200 applicants.

“We’re thrilled about receiving this award from Red Herring and we want to share our excitement with our investors, our customers and all our supporters,” said FreeWavz CEO Mike Kahn. “This award is further validation that there’s a place for us in the booming wearable/hearable market and that we have the potential to truly disrupt the market with our first product.”

FreeWavz feature "transmissive" pulse oximetry technology, the same method company founder, Dr. Eric Henson, uses in the operating room to obtain heart rate and oxygen saturation from his patients. FreeWavz not only record heart rate and oxygen saturation but also measure steps, calories burned, and report distance, duration and speed.

The Red Herring award comes on the heels of several other 2015 accolades for technology innovation in the wearable sector, including winning the SXSW Innovation Award, honoree for the CES Innovation Award, and finalist as the Bluetooth SIG Breakthrough Award.

“We believe FreeWavz embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “FreeWavz should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was very strong.”

Red Herring’s editorial staff evaluated companies on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technological innovation and intellectual property, DNA of the founders, business model, customer footprint and addressable market.
