Colorado-based Laboratory Network Chooses McKesson

Non-profit alliance will benefit from advanced business reporting

ATLANTA--()--Carent Laboratory Solutions, a community-based alliance of non-profit hospital laboratories operating in Colorado and Nebraska, has chosen McKesson Business Performance Services (McKesson) to provide advanced billing and business reporting capabilities.

McKesson’s revenue cycle management services will include claims management, denial management, compliance, customer service and business intelligence reporting. Billing for each of the alliance members will be handled independently.

Daryl Bohlender, Carent’s chief operating officer, said, “McKesson’s range of resources will significantly strengthen key processes across the alliance. Among other benefits, McKesson’s best practices should help decrease requests for additional information and thus accelerate collections.”

LaSalle, Colo.-based Carent was formed in 1995 and works in conjunction with the Mayo Clinic. The organization conducts a little over one million tests annually.

“With McKesson’s help, we are confident we can enhance the alliance’s financial performance and further boost our competitive position,” Bohlender said. “Each of the members has unique needs that McKesson will be able to address in expert fashion, so we are excited about what this alliance will mean for our organization.”

Bohlender added that McKesson’s ability to generate custom business reports both for the individual laboratories as well as the alliance as a whole will provide previously unavailable operational insight and transparency.

“McKesson’s reporting will allow us to demonstrate value to payers and therefore help us increase our network footprint in Colorado and Nebraska,” he said.

Pat Leonard, president of McKesson Business Performance Services, said McKesson was enthusiastic about partnering with the alliance.

“Carent is a long-standing organization with a successful track record,” Leonard said. “We look forward to helping them address the challenges many laboratories face today, including greater competition and falling reimbursements. At the same time, we’re excited about what we can learn from the unique system they’ve developed.”
