NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Nashville Health Care Council is pleased to announce the commencement of its 2015 Health Care Council Fellows class following an intensive period of rigorous coursework and engaged dialogue on the future direction of the health care industry.

An annual initiative, Council Fellows is co-led by former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D. and Larry Van Horn, associate professor of management and executive director of health affairs at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management. It provides a rare, highly collaborative experience that leverages “real-world” knowledge of the industry’s founding experts as well as nationally known figures and leading academic institutions. The class engages participants to better implement business strategies, create value, drive industry growth and effect change.
“When we started this program, our mission was to create an environment where the top health care minds are able to come together and establish a collaborative vision for creating meaningful change,” said Senator Frist, co-director of the initiative. “In just three short years, we are already seeing the impact this program is making on our nation’s health care industry. Executives from across the country recognize Fellows as a unique, highly valuable opportunity to learn, examine and exchange ideas among those who will shape health care’s future for years to come.”
Through eight, day-long sessions, 36 Fellows from a wide variety of industry sectors completed a specifically designed curriculum that featured nationally renowned speakers in leadership, health care, economics and business strategies. The class format leveraged the power of discussion and ideas exchange, as well as industry immersion activities and small-group leadership training and development. This year’s topics included:
- The rise of the health care consumer;
- State and federal-level health care policy reform;
- Fiscal challenges;
- Population health management;
- Fundamental shifts in reimbursement systems;
- Disruptive innovation in technology;
- Clinical advancements in genomics and precision medicine;
- Integrated delivery networks;
- Health care analytics; and
- Care delivery and financial modeling.

Recruiting the 2016 Fellows Class
The 2016 Fellows will bring together the next class of senior leaders with demonstrated potential to drive the industry forward.
“With this next class, we are looking for industry executives who are passionate about finding solutions to health care’s greatest challenges as we continue to explore ways to inspire industry growth and effect real change,” said Larry Van Horn, co-director of the Fellows.
Recruitment will begin in fall 2015. All applications will require information and statements of interest by the applicants, as well as letters of recommendation from each applicant’s superior. The 2016 class will be selected by the Council Fellows Advisory Committee and announced in December.
