O’Connor Hospital Recognized for Outstanding Quality

SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--O’Connor Hospital was recognized with an “A” grade in the Spring 2015 Hospital Safety Score by the Leapfrog Group, the highest available rating for patient safety in the nation. The hospital also received an “A” rating in Fall 2014.

The nonprofit Leapfrog Group rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, injuries and infections. The grades used in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score program are derived from expert analysis of publicly available data using national evidence-based measures of patient safety.

O’Connor Hospital also recently received the “2015 Get with the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award” from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, recognizing O’Connor’s success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care.

“We pride ourselves on being one of the safest hospitals in Santa Clara County, and this A rating again validates that we are meeting the highest standards for quality care,” said James F. Dover, FACHE, O’Connor Hospital President and CEO.

In addition to the patient safety recognition, O’Connor continues to expand its services. The hospital now offers bronchial thermoplasty, an outpatient procedure for adult patients with severe asthma. O’Connor is the only hospital in San Jose to offer this service. The hospital’s state-of-the-art Wound Care Clinic now uses a LUNA laser system that helps physicians diagnose and treat slow-healing wounds – one of only two LUNA lasers operating in Northern California.

Other advanced technologies recently added include the state-of-the-art surgical imaging system, the O-arm intra-operating Imaging System for the Surgery Department. The O-arm assists neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons with complex and delicate spine surgeries. Another advanced technology being used throughout the hospital is the TRU-D SmartUVCTM disinfection robot that uses powerful ultraviolet light to kill harmful viruses and bacteria. O’Connor is the first hospital in the Bay Area to deploy TRU-D.

Over the years O’Connor has received numerous quality awards and recognitions. The hospital is a Joint Commission “Center of Excellence” for hip replacement, knee replacement, wound care and as an advanced primary stroke center. Blue Shield of California has recognized O’Connor with a Blue Distinction Center® designation for delivering quality cardiac care, and as a Blue Distinction Center+ for its knee replacement and hip replacement program.
