Sprint Planning Has a New Look with Efficiency and Fun

352 Inc. Launches PlanningPoker.com at the Scrum Alliance Global Scrum Gathering, bringing a new-found efficiency to the sprint planning and estimating process.

PHOENIX--()--Live from the Scrum Alliance Global Scrum Gathering 2015, 352 Inc. is proud to announce a fully redesigned and rebuilt Planning Poker for the agile development community. Initially built by Mountain Goat Software and now redesigned by 352 Inc., the new PlanningPoker.com reimagines the classic planning tool for today’s agile teams. 352’s team updated the digital product with an effortless user experience and modern design, speeding up the the estimation process and offering an unmatched experience for scrum teams.

“The opportunity to work with 352 came along at the perfect time,” said Mike Cohn, founding member of Scrum Alliance and owner of Mountain Goat Software. “I had considered a rebuild with my internal team, but I was immediately impressed with the 352 team’s product, talent, and their passion for agile. Hundreds of agile teams use Planning Poker every day, and I know this new platform will make estimating more effective and enjoyable for all of them.”

Cohn first popularized planning poker in the 2002 book “Agile Estimating and Planning” as a collaborative tool for agile teams to accurately estimate the effort required to accomplish a task. Teams use specialized cards – typically fibonacci sequences – to assign effort points to tasks in the product backlog, building consensus and removing participant bias.

For more than a decade, planning poker has been used to streamline effort pointing and sprint planning, and the new PlanningPoker.com introduces new features to support the needs of a modern agile development team.

As users of the original product, 352 built a tool to meet their growing needs. The new platform protects project information through secure user entry and allows scrum masters to quickly add tasks for estimation. Multiple pointing systems, a flexible fibonacci scale and immediate scoring offer a simple way to meet the needs of any agile team, with just a dash of fun.

“The initial redesign was actually a winning project from our annual internal hackathon,” said Geoff Wilson, president of 352 Inc. “Our team saw an opportunity to improve a valuable tool, and we are proud to take part in the relaunch of a global product that our teams use in our internal agile process. The enhanced security, usability and efficiency of PlanningPoker.com will bring a new measure of ease to product development for team across the globe.”

Scrum Gathering attendees can also check out the beta release of 352’s newest product, AgileFlare. The product provides agile development teams with a visual dashboard to display project health and identify roadblocks to sprint efficiency.
