Qumu Selects IBM Cloud to Run Its Flagship Video Products

Video solutions powered by SoftLayer provide better performance and value for customers worldwide

SAN BRUNO, Calif.--()--Leading enterprise business video platform provider Qumu (NASDAQ: QUMU) has announced that its cloud video solutions are now being powered by the IBM Cloud. With IBM Cloud’s global SoftLayer infrastructure, Qumu provides customers of its flagship video and rich-media presentation solutions, Qumu Cloud and Qumu Enterprise, with persistent performance and low-latency connections around the world.

“We’ve made significant investments to bring our enterprise video platform in the cloud in order to easily and securely bring better video to everyone,” said Vern Hanzlik, President of Qumu. “Running our video services on IBM Cloud’s SoftLayer infrastructure is only going to improve our customers’ video experience.”

Qumu’s new cloud infrastructure solution has translated to better performance and value for its customers. The company has a high level of control over and visibility into its SoftLayer cloud environment, allowing Qumu the opportunity to fine-tune and optimize its infrastructure in terms of performance and cost. It provisions both bare metal and virtual servers on demand through SoftLayer’s API, and can spin up servers in real time to accommodate peaks in customer demand.

Qumu is also leveraging SoftLayer’s growing global footprint of interconnected cloud data centers and points of presence (POPs) to provide the low-latency connections required by rich-media and video workloads. With its enhanced cloud offerings and extended global reach, Qumu plans to target and grow its SMB customer base.

Previously, Qumu used a competing cloud provider for its workloads in the U.S. and Europe. It selected IBM Cloud’s SoftLayer platform for its performance, flexibility and worldwide reach, and has migrated the majority of its global workloads—including its core video platform management assets and several demo environments—onto SoftLayer.

“IBM Cloud excels in bringing traditional, highly complex, on-premises infrastructure environments into the cloud,” said Ed Bottini, director of cloud services channel sales at IBM. “SoftLayer’s infrastructure is designed for innovative businesses such as Qumu that realize the value of a global cloud footprint connected by a secure high-speed network architecture with proven performance.”

Qumu’s flagship video products, Qumu Cloud and Qumu Enterprise, deliver live and on-demand video communication for global organizations of all sizes. Qumu Cloud is a rapidly deployable video solution for creating, sharing and managing rich-media video presentations through IBM Cloud, while Qumu Enterprise leverages secure-edge capabilities like Qumu’s VideoNet Edge and IBM Cloud to provide robust, optimized video delivery to organizations without overburdening their internal network delivery option.

With offices in the U.S., London, Hyderabad, Dubai, Asia and beyond, Qumu is looking forward to further extending its geographic reach and availability by leveraging SoftLayer’s growing global footprint. The company plans to use SoftLayer’s locations in the Asia-Pacific region to expand its services into APAC by mid-year 2015.
