Ebates.com Mother’s Day Survey: Men Are NOT from Mars! Men Correctly Guess What Gift Moms Want Most This Year

Survey Also Reveals that Mom Does Not Want to Hit the Gym or Become the Next Great Chef

SAN FRANCISCO--()--This year, unlike the past few years, men and women agree on the gift that mom wants most for Mother’s Day. According to new research released today by Ebates.com, the pioneer and leader in online cash back shopping, the top gift on American moms’ wish list is quality time with their family (60 percent). Luckily, men agree, with 65 percent of American men choosing family time as the gift they think mom will like best this year.

Men not only guessed mom’s #1 gift choice correctly this year, but also correctly chose other top items on mothers’ wish lists. More than half the men surveyed stated that mom will want a clean house for Mother’s Day (51 percent)—a gift item that moms ranked as their #2 gift choice (52 percent).

“Each year we see that men and women differ when it comes to what men think mom wants versus what mom actually wants for Mother’s Day gifts. But this year, men are right on the mark,” said Kevin H. Johnson, CEO of Ebates. “At Ebates, we want to help shoppers take the stress out of finding the perfect gift for mom, while earning cash back on gifts moms will love.”

What NOT to Give Mom

If you’re thinking of getting mom a new personal trainer for Mother’s Day, think again! The Ebates.com survey revealed that the #1 gift American moms do not want to receive is a gym membership (50 percent). This is followed by a cook book or cooking classes (40 percent), perfume (31 percent), and chocolates or a tablet (25 percent each).

Hey Big Spender? Not this year!

Mom doesn’t expect you to break the bank this year. When it comes to how much moms think their family should spend on a Mother’s Day gift, 35 percent admit that $20-$50 is the right amount. Not surprisingly, men agree, with 35 percent revealing that they plan to spend between $20 and $50 on mom. More frugal moms say that their family should spend $20 or less (21 percent) or nothing at all (19 percent).

More than 1 in 10 (12 percent) dads plan to dish out between $100 and $250, while 6 percent will spend more than $250. Only 3 percent of moms think their families should go overboard and spend more than $250 on a gift, and a small 5 percent want loved ones to spend between $100 and $250.
