Uber’s David Plouffe to Deliver Closing Keynote Address at ITS America’s 25th Annual Meeting on June 3 in Pittsburgh, PA

ITS America 2015

WASHINGTON--()--David Plouffe, Senior Vice President for Policy and Strategy at Uber Technologies, Inc. and widely referred to as the architect of President Barack Obama’s two presidential campaign victories, will deliver the closing keynote speech at the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) 25th Annual Meeting and Exposition at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 in Pittsburgh, PA.

The announcement was made today by ITS America Interim President and CEO, Thomas E. Kern. “David Plouffe is a fantastic addition to our already exciting program,” he said. “Having a speaker of his caliber and intellect at our closing plenary speaks volumes about our members’ position designing the future of transportation.”

Plouffe joins the list of distinguished speakers at the meeting, including Google[x]’s Dr. Chris Urmson, which will be held at the David Lawrence Convention Center from May 31 - June 3.

While holding senior positions in the White House and as a close adviser to President Obama, Plouffe won plaudits for the use of technology, his message development and competitiveness. He joined Uber, one of the nation’s fastest growing transportation technology firms in September 2014. Since its founding in 2009, Uber has seamlessly connected millions of riders to drivers through their apps, making cities more accessible to riders and opening up an entirely new business opportunity for drivers.

Last week, ITS America announced that Uber had joined the ITS America Leadership Circle, a prestigious group featuring 40 private, public and academic sector organizations whose mission is to advance transportation through innovation and technology. The group recently released A Road Map for 2015 outlining six key priorities.

ITS America will celebrate its 25th anniversary at this year’s Annual Meeting, culminating at a reception sponsored by the technology company. Uber is the official transportation option of the 2015 ITS America Annual Meeting and the Platinum sponsor. David Plouffe’s keynote is just one of many expected announcements of speakers and dignitaries that will be released over the coming weeks.

The event, co-sponsored by ITS Pennsylvania, is expected to attract more than 2,000 top officials, policymakers and high-tech leaders to this must-attend transportation gathering of the year. The ITS Annual Meeting program will highlight local ITS initiatives in Pittsburgh as well as groundbreaking ITS projects from across the country. It will also feature a wide array of topics including connected and automated vehicles, safety and security, financing and funding, sustainability, shared-use mobility and transit, commercial vehicle and freight logistics, mobile applications, transportation systems operations, and more.

In addition to exciting speeches and inspiring panel discussions, the event will feature an extensive exhibition floor with demonstrations and exhibits showcasing the technologies that will drive transportation into the future.

Pittsburgh is perfectly positioned to host the annual meeting. With its rising and diverse technology base, entrepreneurism and long-term importance as a freight hub, Pittsburgh is also an academic center with several major universities conducting significant intelligent transportation research. They are currently spearheading some of the most advanced and exciting ITS research and development on the planet including critical infrastructure improvements, greater transportation access for the movement of people and goods, autonomous vehicle technology and more.
