Research and Markets: Websites for Wealth Management 2014 - Desktop and Mobile Sites: A Winning Combination - Benchmarking of Top 40 Wealth Management Websites

DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/zxhkrm/websites_for) has announced the addition of the "Websites for Wealth Management 2014 - Desktop and Mobile Sites: A Winning Combination" report to their offering.

ABN AMRO Private Banking is the overall winner of this year's ranking with 84 points (desktop and mobile website together), followed by Société Générale with 76 points. Coutts and Investec rank equal third with 75 points and Julius Baer follows as fifth ranked with 70 points. Looking at the ranking for mobile websites only, ABN AMRO Private Banking also claims the crown with 23 points (out of a maximum of 30), followed by Coutts and DBS, who share second rank (21 points). Looking only at the desktop website, ABN AMRO is again the winner (61 points), with BMO as the runner-up (60 points) and Investec ranking third (59 points).

This research is pleased to see that this year the average result of the desktop websites increased from 61% to 64% of maximum available points compared to last year's evaluation. The fact that on average only 29% of the total points for the mobile websites have been achieved, is partly due to the fact that only half of the wealth managers actually provide a mobile website, optimized for smartphone use. These poor results reflect the conservative character - and thus, the slow adoption of digital trends - of the private banking industry. Encouragingly, however, some early adopters among the wealth managers are already offering convincing mobile websites.

While desktop websites seem to be on a good development path, mobile wealth management websites reveal an unexciting picture

This research is encouraged to see good progress in some areas of the desktop website evaluation compared to our 2013 report such as in navigation and expert content. In other areas, however, the results prove less promising: the provision of information on fees and prices as well as information on portfolio performance are still comparatively weak. In addition, the poor execution with regard to interactivity and social media still gives rise to concern.

In a separate, but closely linked, benchmarking, this research has analyzed the mobile websites (not to be confused with mobile apps, which are evaluated in a different report). While mobile web users are more and more accustomed to access the Internet via their smartphones, most private banks fail to offer a well-designed mobile website to them. The fact that only half of the wealth managers offer a mobile sibling of their desktop websites is alarming. Moreover, of those websites, the majority are simply a squeezed version of the desktop websites.

Hence, it becomes clear that wealth managers have not yet recognized that their mobile users represent wholly different use cases and should be offered a mobile web presence that addresses these specific needs. Most importantly, mobile websites should offer key information on location.
