iGetBetter Begins New Pilot for HCM Patients

SUDBURY, Mass.--()--iGetBetter, Inc., a digital health supplier of post-acute care transition solutions, announced that Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), a Partners Healthcare teaching hospital, has selected iGetBetter for a pilot for patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The iGetBetter cloud-based platform bridges transition of care from hospital to home and engages patients in their own care, thus improving outcomes and helping to reduce readmissions.

Cardiologists at BWH will use the iGetBetter system to monitor HCM patients and communicate their care plan instructions to them via mobile devices. These clinicians will use data from biometric devices connected to the patients’ mobile devices, as well as patients’ self-reported data, to adjust their medications for optimal efficacy, and intervene if necessary to avoid hospital admissions or unnecessary office visits and reduce costs.

“There is a great need for innovative approaches to relieve symptoms for patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Disease manifestations can vary significantly on a day to day, and even minute to minute basis, but contemporary practice has not adapted to this aspect of disease,” said Neal Lakdawala, MD, physician in the Division of Cardiology at BWH and clinical lead on this new clinical project. “We are excited about the potential for this pilot, in which we will accelerate the pace of relief for patients using technology that allows them to report symptoms, vital signs and step counts daily. This information will allow us to titrate their medications weekly and individualize treatment. This patient centered approach will prioritize the relief of their principal symptoms while preserving quality and safety measures.”

"This pilot with Brigham and Women's Hospital represents a new phase for the use of our iGetBetter system,” said David Lebudzinski, MD, iGetBetter’s Chief Medical Officer. “For the first time, we will be using daily patient biometric readings coupled with daily subjective inputs from patients about possible cardiac symptoms to titrate medication levels to maximum desired levels remotely without the need for multiple outpatient office visits. This potentially represents a major improvement for these hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients who will be brought up to desired medication doses faster than ever, achieving a level of therapeutic safety much faster than in the past. This should improve their quality of life and reduce their risk for adverse cardiac events very quickly."

Also participating in this pilot is Withings, a partner of iGetBetter, which is donating Bluetooth-enabled blood pressure cuffs and activity monitors for use in the pilot. Withing’s self-tracking tools can help self-manage and prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma or hypertension. Technology is now making it easier for patients to keep track of healthcare data and make decisions based on a strong scientific rationale.

“Withings broadens the capabilities of objects, turning them into smart connected devices,” said Cédric Hutchings CEO for Withings.
