WATERBURY, Vt.--()--Keurig Green Mountain, Inc. (Keurig) (NASDAQ: GMCR), a leader in specialty coffee, coffee makers, teas and other beverages with its innovative brewing technology, announces the addition of Keurig® K-Mug® pods: pods that brew a large travel mug-size of your favorite beverage, offering even more brewing options within the Keurig® 2.0 brewing system. Keurig® 2.0, which debuted in Fall 2014, is the most advanced hot beverage system ever made by Keurig and the first Keurig® brewer with the ability to brew a single cup, a four-cup carafe, and now a travel mug size of coffee.

Available exclusively on Keurig.com, the new K-Mug® pods are specially formulated to deliver the quality and strength of flavor that Keurig 2.0 brewer users expect when brewing 12-, 14-, and 16-ounce coffee and other beverages, accommodating both on-the-go lifestyles and those mornings that require more than a cup but less than a carafe.

“When we launched Keurig 2.0, one of the key insights we heard from consumers is that they want to brew more: they want to brew larger quantities of coffee, and they also want more brewing options to accommodate their varying drink occasions throughout the day. The introduction of the K-Mug pod satisfies those desires, giving our fans the choice to brew an even wider range of sizes in the Keurig 2.0 system with the assurance that no matter how they customize the size of their brew, they will still get the perfect, high-quality beverage they expect in their cup,” said Mark Wood, Keurig’s Chief Product Officer of Hot Systems.

Similar to K-Carafe® and Vue® pods, K-Mug® pods are recyclable. The pod’s plastic cup is made from polypropylene (#5) plastic, and can be quickly and easily separated from the lid and filter for recycling.

K-Mug® pods join the current line-up of over 400 different beverage varieties from 60+ brands available in the Keurig® 2.0 system, including all of the top ten best-selling coffee brands in the U.S. K-Mug® pods will launch with the following hot beverage favorites:

  • Green Mountain Coffee® Breakfast Blend
  • Green Mountain Coffee® Dark Magic®
  • Green Mountain Coffee® French Vanilla
  • The Original Donut Shop® Regular
  • Donut House Collection® Donut House® Coffee

With the introduction of the K-Mug® travel-size pod, Keurig® 2.0 users now have nine brew settings to choose from, ranging in size from four ounces to four-cup carafe. K-Mug® pods, which are also compatible with Keurig® Vue® brewing systems, include the Keurig 2.0 Brewing Technology™. This interactive technology offers distinct consumer benefits of automatic adjustment of brew temperature and size control depending on which pod is inserted, which ensures excellent quality and a consistent brewing experience and allows for the one-touch simplicity consumers love about the Keurig brand. Look for the Keurig® logo on favorite K-Cup®, K-Mug®, K-Carafe® or Vue® pods to ensure a delicious cup every time.

As a recyclable pod, the K-Mug® pod is another important step that shows Keurig’s continued progress to reduce the environmental footprint of the Keurig® brewing system and its progress toward achieving its broader 2020 sustainability targets. The K-Mug® pod’s plastic cup is made from polypropylene (#5) plastic, and can be separated from the lid and filter for recycling. With the K-Mug® pod introduction, three of the four pod formats available for the Company’s Keurig® 2.0 system -- Vue®, K-Mug® and K-Carafe® pods -- are now recyclable. Keurig has a stated target to have 100% of its K-Cup® pods be recyclable by 2020, with incremental portions of its K-Cup® pods transitioning to a recyclable format each year between now and 2020.
