CALIENT and Phoenix Datacom Collaborate to Deliver Optical Circuit Switching to Data Centers and Service Providers in United Kingdom

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--()--CALIENT Technologies, Inc., the global leader for Optical Circuit Switching technology, and Phoenix Datacom, a networking and data center solution provider located in Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom, today announced a collaboration to deliver CALIENT’s S-Series Optical Circuit Switch family to the U.K. market.

Since it was founded in 1984, Phoenix Datacom has grown to become the UK’s most technically competent provider of solutions and professional services that improve the security and performance of networks and data centers.

The company provides solutions and professional services to major UK organizations, including enterprise network owners in the private and public sectors, network equipment manufacturers and most of the fixed and mobile carriers and broadcast providers.

CALIENT’s S-Series Optical Switches are used to create a network fabric with total throughput of more than 32 terabits per second. The optical circuit switch allows any-to-any network connections with almost no latency and can be reconfigured on demand through a software-defined network (SDN) controller.

Each switch port is transparent to bit rate and can support data speeds up to 100 Gbps and beyond. The S-Series switches are used in cloud data centers, co-location and multi-tenant facilities and service provider networks.

“The S-Series Switches brings significant value to these applications and when that is added to the trust that Phoenix Datacom has established with leading organizations in the United Kingdom, it makes for a powerful combination for the customer,” said Erik Leonard, CALIENT’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Business Development. “We’re pleased to be collaborating with Phoenix Datacom as it will allow CALIENT to start the OCS revolution with customers throughout the UK.”

“Optical Switching in the data center has come of age, and through this collaboration, Phoenix Datacom’s customers can leverage CALIENT’s pure optical layer switching technology for more flexible and higher port count SDN/NFV networks,” said John Carson, Managing Director of Phoenix Datacom. “We have already seen growth in demand for optical switching in lab testing environments, and switching in the data center gives a competitive advantage with reduced latency, lower configuration times in multi-tenanted data centers, as well as less power usage and of course the associated cost-savings.”
