Fabric Closing 1.5M Seed Round from Top Investors, Launches on the App Store to Inspire People to Do More of What They Love

Fabric Encourages You to Build and Share Your Want-To Lists for Everything You Love To Do Across Movies, TV, Music and Travel, Plus Connect with People who Share Your Interests

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Fabric is closing a 1.5 million seed round from top investors across media, entertainment and technology sectors, and has launched on the Apple App Store. Fabric is a smart new app that allows its community to build want-to lists for entertainment and lifestyle activities by browsing through hundreds of fun, curated packs. The current product already covers movies, TV, music and travel and is rapidly expanding its coverage to additional categories.

“Everyone wants to do more of what they love. We all try and keep lists of what we want to do but they are scattered across our minds, post-its, notebooks, emails or different services” said Jon Vlassopulos, Fabric’s Founder and CEO. ”We are making doing what you love easier and more fun by inspiring our users to build all their lists in one place and making them social and actionable.”

Employing a patent-pending four-directional swipe user-interface, Fabric enables fans to swipe through hundreds of curated packs, build their want-to lists and rate past experiences. Fabric’s intelligent compatibility algorithm uses personal interest data to serve up compatibility across its community. The algorithm allows for smart ordering of want-to lists according to people who share your tastes, qualified social recommendations, and opportunities to connect and chat with like-minded friends. Fabric also seamlessly links to top commerce partners like iTunes, Amazon, Google Play and Fandango to make the lists actionable and the purchases easy.

“We are all made up of a fabric of our interests and experiences but up to now we haven’t had a chance to share our Fabric and connect with people who share our interests,” said Allen Debevoise, Chairman of Machinima and recent Fabric investor. “Fabric blends the creative expression of Pinterest, the fun list experience of Buzzfeed and the utility of apps like Evernote to allow people to easily build and maintain their personal fabric - everything they’ve done and everything they want to do. This is going to be a very powerful platform for driving m-commerce and connecting people”

Lists are already a proven media unit, popularized by Buzzfeed and others. Fabric now advances the list format by making them interactive, personal and actionable. Now people can find out how many of those “Top 15 Oscar Picks” they want to see, which of their friends also want to see them, and where they can watch them. The company is focused on bringing the point of passion and the point of purchase as close together as possible. Fabric currently hosts lists from celebrities like Amy Smart, Chuck D, Olly Murs, Duran Duran, Deepak Chopra, The Script, and more.

“The exciting thing for me about Fabric is that it is a massive intent engine that captures valuable consumer intent data across multi-billion dollar advertising categories like travel and entertainment,” said John Spinale, ex Disney digital head and new Fabric investor. “Now when a friend swipes down to add Costa Rica to her travel want-to list, it is a perfect opportunity for an airline to present her an offer. Everyone wins; this is the way advertising should be. In the future I can see Fabric becoming your personal concierge and connector.”
