The New York Times Magazine Reveals First Feature of Its Redesign: the Ethicists Podcast

NEW YORK--()--The New York Times Magazine introduced the “Ethicists” podcast today, the first feature of the redesigned Magazine to be unveiled in print on Sunday, Feb. 22. The remainder of the digital content from the premiere issue will publish on NYTimes.com/Magazine on Thursday, Feb. 19.

The Ethicist column, which began in 1999, answered reader questions about ethical behavior in a thoughtful and humorous manner and become one of the magazine’s most well-known weekly features.

As part of the relaunch, the column has been reinvented as a multi-platform franchise that takes the form of a podcast, a print and online column, and occasional live events. Produced in collaboration with Slate, it will appear as a weekly half hour podcast, available on iTunes and elsewhere, in which a panel of three ethicists answer reader questions. The print and online column will be an edited version of the podcast.

The magazine’s new ethicists are Amy Bloom, Jack Shafer and Kenji Yoshino. Bloom is a novelist whose most recent book is “Lucky Us”; she also had a psychotherapy practice for 25 years. Shafer is the media columnist for Politico. Yoshino is the Chief Justice Earl Warren professor of Constitutional Law at New York University and the author of the forthcoming book “Speak Now: Marriage Equality on Trial.”

The Ethicists podcast is available for download here.
