Handle Launches Context-Aware Productivity Tool to Help Us Get a Hold on Our Lives

Founded and backed by Silicon Valley luminaries, Handle aims to reboot productivity and work/life balance

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Handle, the software and services company making personal and business productivity tools to give people a handle on everything that matters, when it matters, launched today with the availability of its free Handle iOS app in the Apple App Store. Handle mobile and web apps replace chaos with calm by transforming the way people access, respond to, plan and act on their time-sensitive obligations. Handle dramatically increases productivity around work and life styles by being the first company to bring together to-dos, email and calendar activities into a single, smart and trusted place on a mobile device.

“Handle will help people make the most important decision in life: what should I do next,” said Shawn Carolan, founder and CEO of Handle. “Focusing on what matters will help people balance their lives while also creating economic value. The answer is not to replace email, but to enhance it with the data we all need to manage action: reminder times, projects, locations, and due dates. That is what we are launching today.”

Handle transforms unproductive email-centric environments that people struggle through for an average of 13 hours per week into a rapid decision support tool enabling work-flow and life-flow in a coherent, seamless and uncluttered environment.

“Email is a victim of its own success,” said Mitch Kapor, founder of Lotus and an investor in Handle. “Handle is rescuing it. These guys are building what I've been envisioning for 25 years. The most exciting personal productivity tool I've seen in forever.” According to the McKinsey Global Institute report, the average worker gets 147 messages per day and deletes 71, or 48 percent. People spend 13 hours or 28 percent of their workweek reading, deleting, sorting and sending emails.

The Handle productivity system comprises patent-pending extensible and semantic metadata models; machine learning and context aware algorithms. Combined, Handle’s technology extends and integrates existing email-centric applications into singular and productive, personal and team environments that are context aware, cognizant and collaborative.

Handle has received $9.9m in venture funding from investors that include Menlo Ventures, Mitch Kapor, Chip Heath, David Fischer, Eric Ries and Silicon Valley Bank.
