Power to the People: Survey Shows Growing Influence of IT End User and Cloud Are Biggest Elements Impacting Organizations

DALLAS--()--CompuCom, a leading technology infrastructure services company, today announced the results of an online survey of 440 IT professionals showing that 28 percent see the increased power of IT end users, and 26 percent see cloud technology, as the elements having the most impact on their organizations, followed by the modernization of legacy apps (22 percent) and Big Data/Analytics (17 percent). The poll collected responses from IT pros across multiple industries from September 15 – November 24, 2014.

According to CompuCom Chief Technology Officer Sam Gross, “With Bring Your Own Device and Choose Your Own Device spreading rapidly throughout organizations, mobile device management is becoming critical in IT departments and raising many questions. Users are becoming savvier and demanding a rich, personalized, productive experience that mirrors the one they have in their personal lives. End users are accessing cloud services directly to meet their needs, so we’re quickly entering the era of the end user – and we need to adapt to ensure they have productive, secure experiences.”

Respondents to CompuCom’s poll were asked, “What is the biggest element impacting your IT organization?”
Increased power of the IT end user – 28%
Cloud technology – 26%
Modernization of legacy applications – 22%
Big Data/Analytics – 17%
Mergers and acquisitions – 7%

According to IT budget data from the Corporate Executive Board, collected from nearly 200 organizations globally and representing $75 billion in IT spending, CIOs plan to invest significant funds in improving the end-customer experience, with 17 percent of the IT project budget dedicated to customer interface investments in 2014 (up from 15 percent in 2013), and the role of user-experience designer expected to become mainstream by the end of 2015.

“It’s clear end users are driving investment in the latest technologies, increasing the size of the mobile workforce and its influence on technology choices,” said Gross.

CompuCom is helping many of the largest companies in the world to deploy, secure and manage the technology and applications that their organizations require, including BYOD end-user support options that improve speed, agility and flexible capacity.

CompuCom was recently positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Leaders” quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for End-User Outsourcing, North America 2014. The company was positioned in the highest leader quadrant based on “Ability to Execute.”
