Byron Bay Ranks as Most Expensive Destination in Australia

SYDNEY--()--Byron Bay, the famous beachside town in New South Wales, is the most expensive destination in Australia according to a new survey from TravelMag.com. The survey compared 20 popular destinations in Australia based on their cost of lodging. This December, the month during which hotel rates typically reach their highest average price in most Australian destinations, served as the basis of comparison.

In Byron Bay, travelers will have to spend on average of A$176 per night for the least expensive double room. It must be mentioned that only centrally located hotels rated at least 3 stars and having a positive overall average client rating have been considered for this survey.

Sydney ranks second most expensive with an average price tag of A$136 per night. The Top 3 is rounded out by Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania. There, the least expensive double room will cost A$131, on average, this December.

With an average rate of only A$60 per night, Cairns, located in North Queensland, ranks as the cheapest Australian destination. Also rather affordable are the cities of Melbourne and Perth, where visitors should be able to find a room for less than A$100 nightly.
